The purpose of the BFA Flight Instructor Program is to recognize, with the designation of BFA Flight Instructor, those commercial Lighter-than-Air pilots who are already involved (or desire to become involved) in flight and ground instruction by providing continuing education opportunities. The BFA will provide a listing of Flight Instructors/Master Flight Instructors on its web site, supporting those individuals who have made the personal commitment to teach.

YOU can do this!
If you thought flying in a balloon was amazing, wait til you try flying the balloon yourself. You're in control of a gentle giant floating across the countryside. Fire the powerful burner and you're on your way up, come down to get a closer look or to change direction with the wind. Careful, it's addictive!
Who can learn to fly? People from all walks of life fly balloons. Generally speaking, earning a license requires exercising sound judgment; being able to speak English, taking flight instruction, passing both a written and flight test, and having no disqualifying medical condition.

The Crew Achievement Award Program was in part designed to increase recognition of the often-unsung heroes of our sport - the dedicated crew.
Formally recognizing crew members and involving them in this program will mean crews will be more knowledgeable and enthused about ballooning - which will ultimately mean safer flights.
