Last year, the BFA Great Lakes Balloon Camp held its first camp at Albion College and hosted ten campers from four area states. Thanks to several donors and sponsors, almost every one of the campers were able to attend for little cost  to their immediate families (mainly travel costs). These sponsors include balloon clubs and the camper’s pilots.

This year we are currently expecting eight returning campers and another eight who have never attended either of the BFA Balloon Camps (Michigan or Texas). We kept the fees of camp at $395 and are working to keep expenses down to encourage more campers. We have received scholarship funds from several generous people, and a couple balloon clubs will be sponsoring campers (SEMBA, BAGI).  This currently only covers about half of the campers that have expressed a desire to attend this year.

That leads to this request for assistance. Please see if your balloon community would able to help sponsor a camper’s fees (full or partial). If a balloon club would like to sponsor an individual camper from your area, contact Shelley or Thomas and we will see what can be arranged.

If you are able to make a personal donation directly to the BFA on behalf of the Great Lakes camp or the Tyler, Texas Camp, remember at tax time that the BFA is a 501c3 non-profit association. Check with your company if they match donations to non-profit organizations. Most likely the BFA would qualify thus helping to increase your donation.
