Colonel Joe Kittinger (US Air Force Ret) will deliver the keynote address at the BFA's 50th anniversary national convention next April in Des Moines, IA. The convention dates are April 7-10, 2011. Kittinger is best known for his long, lonely leap - when he parachuted from a high altitude balloon at over 102,000 feet - a record that still stands. Kittinger was also first to cross the Atlantic Ocean solo by balloon and has numerous other world records and achievements in ballooning. As a fighter pilot in the Vietnam War he was shot down and spent months in the infamous Hanoi Hilton prison camp. He is also one of the newest members of the US Ballooning Hall of Fame.
