The Balloon Federation of America began with two gas balloon clubs.  On March 26, 1961 Representatives of the Balloon Club of America (Philadelphia) and the National Lighter-Than-Air Society (later Balloon Flyers of Akron) met with the president of the National Aeronautic Association in Pittsburgh.
