Ballooning At EAA AirVenture Print E-mail
Written by BFA
Wednesday, 08 May 2013 20:44
Efforts are underway to represent and promote our wonderful sport of Hot Air Ballooning at  the EAA Airventure at the end of July.  The BFA will cover the costs of the Ballooning Display area, but we need your help!  One of the greatest parts of ballooning is its people and our passion for lighter than air aviation. We are looking for volunteers to continue the tradition in Oshkosh, that are willing to share their enthusiasm at the BFA Ballooning Display Area.  We are in need of a booth coordinator, booth staff as well as pilots who would like to tether and/or fly at the event.  This years dates are July 29th - August 4th.

Let me know if you are interested in volunteering at one of the greatest Aviation Expositions to promote the great sport of ballooning. Please send an email to kwalter@bfa.net for more information

Through her talents as a photographer, she captured and shared the beauty and grace of our sport for all to see. With a constant smile, Cindy openly lived the passion she held so deeply for ballooning. She was a Staff Photographer for our BALLOONING Journal and gave of her work freely so others could enjoy it.

Now Cindy is aloft forever in a clear sky with light winds. She will be forever missed.

A popular hot air balloon in the likeness of the National Forrest Service icon Smokey Bear has become one of the latest targets in the rush to forestall going over the edge of the fiscal cliff.  The Associated Press reports that Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky) said Thursday during the Senate's opening day that the Smokey Bear balloon was a waste of taxpayer dollars, especially at a time when the Republicans are looking to tackle the federal deficit.

At the BFA Board of Directors Meeting in Albuquerque, a new Continuing Education Program was outlined by the new chairperson of the CE Committee Dave Sullivan.  Dave explained that the current "safety seminar" model in use today was originally developed to be a part of the CE program that was developed as the "Links Program" back in the 80's.  Fast forward to 2012, safety seminars have become the only piece left. Traditional seminars now are of varying length, content, and QUALITY.
