The Battle Creek competition map is ready to download for competitors in the US National Championship. Calibration files for Ozi and Compe are also available. These were created using software from www.delorme.com.
The files can be found in the Competition portion of the BFA website under US Nationals. To download the files, you must first login as a member to the BFA website at www.bfa.net. If you are not logged in the files will be invisible.
If you need a login name and password, or have forgotten yours, please call the BFA Office and they will set you up.

The 2009 US Nationals in Battle Creek, MI is fast approaching and we look forward to seeing all of you soon. Derrick Jones and HBF, Inc. and the event staff have been working hard since the official approval of the Michigan site to pull together a first class event. While the time constraints of a late start have been challenging, I believe you will be quite impressed with the venue and the hospitality offered.
Here is some important information for you as a competitor to allow you to better prepare for the event.

Dear HACD North Central Region Members,
I would like to take a moment to introduce myself, my name is Jason Jones and I am running for the NC Regional Director for the BFA Hot Air Competition Division. I am very fortunate to have grown up in our sport and very much want to represent you in the Competition Division.
I started out crewing at a very young age and by the age of 16 I was the crew chief for my parents at the National Championships in my home town, Indianola, IA. Growing up there I was able to watch many great pilots compete. Pilots like Rob Bartholomew, Jim Thompson, Bruce Comstock to name a few that I admired and hoped to fly like some day. Of course there are many other great pilots from all over the country that I greatly respect.
After crewing I became a pilot in my early twenties and immediately started competing. Early in my flying career, I am sure just like many of you, a race within a days drive was a race I wanted to attend. I truly love the competitive aspect of our sport. After competing at many weekend and week long races I got a chance to start working as a assistant race director at the National Balloon Classic. I spent six years in the office at the Classic with two of those as the Race Director. I also have spent the last three years as safety officer at the Great Pershing Balloon Derby, the longest running BFA sanction event in the country. Currently I am working very hard to try and keep a sanction event in the Kansas City area. We had twenty balloons fly here this year and I hope to make it a bigger and better event in 2010.
In closing I hope I can earn your vote for the open NC Regional Directors position in the Competition Division. I feel that I bring not only a love for competitive ballooning but also a person who has and will continue to sit on both the race director and competitive pilot side of the table to improve our sport.
Sincerely,
Jason Jones |
