Introducing the Wind Explorer App for BFA Members
The Balloon Federation of America (BFA) is excited to introduce the Wind Explorer app, designed exclusively for BFA members. This innovative tool was launched at the Dayton, Ohio BFA 2025 Convention.
The Wind Explorer App installs on your phone and uses the internal sensors to turn it into a Theodolite to measure the direction and speed of a Piebal. To increase the accuracy of the measurements, accessories are recommended but not required, see accessories below.
Demonstration videos from the BFA Convention will be posted soon along with documentation. Product support and crowd source tips will be shared on the BFA Wind Explorer App Facebook Group, please look for tips and post your questions there!

Wind Explorer Mount – Now Available for order! To enhance the accuracy of wind measurements, we’ve developed the Wind Explorer Mount—a custom-designed, 3D-printed accessory that optimizes the process of tracking a Piball.
This mount is used in conjunction with our Wind Explorer app which is now available in the Applestore and the Google Play store!
